Christmas For Kids is a local non-profit group in the Flathead. The information below concerns Lakeside, but surely we have kids in need throughout the valley – even right here in Bigfork.

February’s gathering topic (The Craft of Knitting, etc., with Carol Marie, February 15, 2012 is all about knitting and related crafts. If you would like to knit but don’t know how, contact Carol Marie at Witty Knitters (837-5648) for information on classes. Also, I knit and have taught knitting in the past and am willing to take on 1 – 2 students who would start by knitting scarves for kids – scarves are the easiest item to knit.

Read on for information from Barb Hicks regarding this local Christmas for Kids project.

From Barb Hicks

“There were 88 kids grades K through 5th this year at the Lakeside School who came to school this winter without hats, gloves and scarves. If the kid was going out to recess without one or more of these, the principal would give to the child from what Christmas For Kids had purchased. They also gave one toy to each child.

I thought if your group or anyone interested knit some of these for children in need next year, then Christmas For Kids could use the money they raise for toys and needed clothes. I know I have a lot of yarn in my knit stash that would be nice and warm when knit into these garments. I know 88 hats, scarves and gloves is a lot to knit, but if we start now we can surely put a big dent in this need for next year.

Needs for next year:

  • Hats: The roll-up kind;
  • Hats with ear flaps and ties;
  • Gloves or mittens;
  • Neck scarves.

Contact Leslie Knuth, 261-4560 for more information about Christmas For Kids, and to take donations.”
