More on Importance of Community

by Catherine Haug, June 5, 2011

Ronny (one of the presenters at the Sourdough gathering) and I have been conversing about my experimentation with my new sourdough starter, for making bread. I found an informational website: that has some tips I’m trying out, and sharing my results and questions with Ronny.

This morning she sent me a wonderful email that I just had to share with all of you, about our community:

“I was just sitting on the porch on [this] incredible Sunday morning. I was thinking about sourdough and our current dialog.

Realization: Yep, this is why we need projects like ESP. We can find everything on the internet. We can find endless conflicting data. What we need is to make it real, learn from folks that are doing it, and then go out and experiment and continue to compare notes. I like this real stuff. Thanks for everything.”

She has touched on our reason to be, at ESP. Each of us came together for different reasons to form our core team. For me it was because I believe in community and in living a low-energy lifestyle. Not because I’m afraid of our future if we continue to go through our energy sources like there is no end; not because I’m afraid of the consequences of global warming.

I believe in community and minimizing my energy consumption because they are the right things to do, not only for the health of our planet, but also for the health and life of all of us. Because they are healing, compassionate and loving aspects of life that are worth cultivating.

Please continue to participate in our community, and to share our important work with your friends and family. All are welcome!
